Self Evaluation and Reflection

When I first came into Esem I was not sure about it at all. I remember many upperclassman telling me that Esem will help you decide if Bryn Mawr is the school for you. To be honest I had only previously heard about Jody Cohen and seen amazing reviews for her on Rate my Professor. I was not sure what to expect from Anne Dalke at all. But as cheesy as this sounds, Esem did really set the stage for me for the rest of my time at Bryn Mawr. I really did enjoy this class.

Aging as an Assumed Normative Process

This is in response to "Why I Hope to Die at 75".

I think the core issue of Emanuel's article is that it almost only takes into account the established norm/identities that are generally "invisible" due to their privilege (ex: I’m guessing he’s a straight cisgender white man). So, basically, everything that intersects with age is tossed aside in an oversimplified argument that I believe holds no validity.

Here's a short list of "isms" that can be found and/or underlie his arguments (and thus why we shouldn't take him very seriously):

Self-Evaluation

This class has been my favortie class this entire semester. I truly looked forward to the discussions especially when there was a reading that I didn't quite understand. The people in my class helped a lot with my growth as an intellectual as well as you, Anne, and I felt like I wouldn't have grown as much as I did without this class. As far as myself, I feel like I've grown a lot. My writing in the beginning was a bit rough, I wasnt throughly formulating my ideas, wasn't putting a thesis, etc. I would say the whole thesis process is still a task that I haven completely accomplished, but I do believe that my writing as a whole has grown. I'm becoming a little bit more aware of my repetitiveness when I write and I try to stop that as much as possible.

And again There's hope

In my last version of this paper, I talked about how Van Jones was my light at the end of the tunnel after reading Elizabeth Kolbert's The Sixth Extinction; hence the title of my paper, And then there's Hope. But I've decided to go in a different direction where I would focus less on the ghettos and more on Bryn Mawr. As an incoming freshman, I was bombarded with many racial issues on campus and from the looks of some of the people within this school, these hadn't been the first couple of instances. Being that we have been dealing with these issues for many years, I feel like the mentality of Van Jones is one that we need to adopt in order to overcome these reoccurring issues.
