Designing Deaf Babies Thoughts

Sarah W's picture

Hi there! I know this is a little late but before the semester wraps up I wanted to be sure I reflected on Serendip about somethings still on my mind that we discussed in class! One of these things is when we read Designing Deaf Babies.... This personally resonated with me because I am the child of two lesbian women, and thus topics of sperm donation, IVF, and adoption are ones of great interest to me. Reading through the article and learning that this couple picked a donor who was also deaf was not something that shocked or upset me. In fact it made plenty of sense in my eyes.

CCW Participation Reflection

I am so incredibly grateful for the partnership our class had with CCW this semester. Though I was only able to go once, I had a fantastic time getting to know my artists as well as other artists working in the studio. Everyone there was just so incredibly kind, and their passion for their art and showing me their art brought me so much joy. Though Ron Thompson was not my artist, his kindness in approaching me and showing his pieces when I came to the studio is something I vividly remember. Creating our exhibition at Haverford was also really special to me.

CCW Reflection

I enjoyed being a part of the CCW project. I was disappointed that I could not visit the CCW due to scheduling conflicts, but I like that the project structure allowed people like me to participate despite these conflicts. I was able to complete the author bio using the notes from my group members who were able to visit the center. I also assisted in reviewing and editing the image descriptions of our chosen artworks. When it came time for the exhibit, I designed and hung the event flyers around campus.
