Tessa suggests a great idea to order and take food to the place we're going! Although I agree with Grace that there are a lot of good restaurants in Chinatown, I think it would be nice if we gather in a place that we could talk or play, no matter it's Anne's place or Mark's funeral home or other possibilities. I'm open to any new things that I haven't seen or done before.

    I'm fine with both time.

We both discussed the invisibilty of learning disabilities and queerness in schooling and how there is no way that people openly accomodate that. Students with learning disabilites are so othered because when people think disability, they think physical and visible. There is such a hierarchy in schooling that people with learning disabilities and people with the disability of queerness and genderfluidity are an afterthought in terms of accessibility and accomodation.

I'm still holding onto my noodle place, ladies and germs. I saw on the website that they do take-out. So... Do you think we could order a LOT of noodles, pick them up at the place (no deliveries), and book it to Anne's/Mark's place before they get cold? We could order cheesteak and pizza too.

    Pleeeeeeeeeease?

I feel bad inviting ourselves to our professor's habitats without bringing stuff to eat. :)

we both talked a lot about the norm of schools for kids with physical and less visible disabilities. We both brought up the importance of flexibility in accessibility and how there is a "typical" classroom or school structure and accesibility is usually a renovation to that, or an afterthought.

I think going to Anne's place is a good idea. Also noodles sound good. Everything is fine, including the times. I'm a pretty easy going person.

    1. The funeral home I hang out at is not my house. It's the studio where Headlong Dance Theater, the company I work with has its offices and rehearsal studio. It's not particularly homey, but we could order food and eat it there. If the weather was going to be nice, we could hang out in the courtyard between the viewing parlor and the embalming room (which is now a practice studio for bands).

    2. I don't think that we need to consider money as a Big Factor in this decision. Anne and I will be sure that everybody eats.

    3. It doesn't need to be a part of tonight's decision which restaurant in chinatown we go to. If you like that option, we can research which places have banquet rooms. Lots of them do, for wedding receptions, parties and...esem dinners.

I'm not trying to move the discussion in any particular way, just to provide info that might be useful.

    Carry on.

OK I understand what your saying but its not just like speed. Give a person with ADHD speed and I promise it would not be the same thing if you would have giving them Adderoll. It sucks that you have to go to jail for that but people go to jail for weed all the time and if you think weed is a drug then your just plain ignorant. All I'm saying is just because its against the law in some cases like weed and adderoll doesn't make it a bad thing. It just means our government has laws for everything and are taking away all our American rights. If a person wants to take Adderol Cuz he/she thinks it helps them, then as long as there not hurting anyone why shouldn't they do it? Smoking kills more people than anything but as long as your over 18 you can do that all day long. This is America you should be able to take/do what you want as long as your not hurting anyone else.

I vote to call up the noodle place and see if they have a place to put a large group. Some restaurants have party areas. If not, I move that we visit Mark, since as nightowl said, we've been to Anne's neighborhood already. I also second nightowl's idea of bringing something from wherever in the city we visited--we could put them together in a sort of collage and take a picture.

Both times work for me, I just need to know which one by that weekend so I can schedule around it.

As for pricing, cash only isn't a problem for me as long as I have advance enough notice to withdraw some, but that or prices in general might be a problem for others--thoughts? Also, allergies? Does anyone know if there is an ingredient that goes in all or most of this food?

    @Kara Cohen

Really benzos should not be used as sleep aid for very long. I am not sure how long. I think it is like 2 weeks. Benzos are quite easy to be dependant upon even addicted. Also it takes increasing amounts faster than other sleep aids. The big antipsychotic used is seroquel. It does have the side effect of wanting to eat all the time- especially carbs. One med used almost exclusively for sleep is trazadone. It is an antidepressant, but they learned when they get up to therapeutic amount for depression, the person is basically sleeping all the time. So it is rarely used for depression anymore. Also it does not need very much to make you sleepy. It is also cheap to buy. I haven't had to buy it out of pocket in a long time, but when I did have to, i think it was like 15 dollars for 30 days. Also which can be tried is a special Unisom, which can be also found in generic. You have to look at all the ingredients. most of them are just benadryl with a different name. This one has an ingredient called doxylamine succinate. It is also one of the main ingredients in NyQuil that makes you sleepy. What I do is alternate the doxy with benedryl so that i don't get too used to either one. This is from a recommendation from my doctor.

Work on good sleep hygiene. just look up those words and you will get all sorts of hits. you should also keep a sleep log of at least 2 weeks, if you have not done this yet. You log when you went to bed, when you think you fell asleep. what time you woke up. also any naps no matter how short. It would also be a good idea to track your other activities. When and what you ate and drank. Whatever activity that you have done and when. compare those to the "rules" of sleep hygiene. You may have to make some sacrifices like moving the TV out of your room if it is there. Don't drink caffeine within 6 hours of your bedtime. Stuff like that.

Remember I AM NOT A DOCTOR. the things that I told you are from my studies as a polysomnographic technologist and even more so, from personal experience. Hope this helps

Or if we were making cookies or something togther at Anne's each one of us could bring one of the ingrediants.

I think Anne's house is near the Magical Gardens, which a nice place but somewhere we have been before. On the plus side It is probably easy access from the train station. Although I love bowls of noodles/ramen, I am leaning towards Anne's house for the space and the natural surroundings.

Maybe we can just bring whatever, just a little something from the part of the city we were in. Not just a pot luck dish, it could be a rock, some candy, leaves, coffee grounds, or a street sign.

    The times work for me.

I'm going with the recent consensus about Anne's house (or Mark's-- maybe we could go to whichever is in a more interesting part of the city? maybe that we haven't seen yet? unless we've seen both, in which case, either one). It really would be more intimate and easier to have conversations with more people than if we were just near a few people in a restaurant.

I'm not quite sure how a potluck would work, although it is a really fun idea. Unless we all went out to get some food to bring before meeting up (which might be expensive...), our options of things to bring are basically limited to dining hall food (or at least mine are).

I agree as well, I think it would be more intimate and a lot more special with an ending to our adventures in Anne's home. As for food, I think pizza is fine and everything but I think it would make things more interesting if we tried something exotic and different...something that we don't always tend to have. We would be in a sense, be playing with food. So maybe like a pot luck? What do you think?

Also, the times work for me on that Sunday.

Although a Noodle House would be nice, I think that going to either Mark's or Anne's would allow for a intimate environment for all of us to have our last outing together, and that it would be easier for us to converse about our experiences in the city and in class. Also I think that in the Noodle House we would be forced to split up, at least into different tables, whereas in one of the houses we could all communicate together.

I agree with all the comments about how interesting it would be to see Mark and Anne's "natural habitats"!

I think that would also make it a speedier "outing", which I would appreciate considering that I will be doing a tech rehearsal for a play I'm in, so I'll really only be free from around 3 to 6...and even that will be exhausting for me. So, the faster option of hanging out in one of their places and ordering pizza or something fast, and cheap, sounds pretty wonderful.

But the massive bowls of noodles sound really great too, and I would definitely be fine with that! :)

on a sidenote, everyone come see Avenue Q December 13th-15th!

Fdaniel, your last question is one that I struggled with when I started the paper. In fact, I almost wrote the paper on how we have to sacrifice part of ourselves in order to assimilate into Bryn Mawr's culture. This statement is upsetting because it is so true. We gain so much by being at Bryn Mawr, but we also lose something in exchange. I think a true way to think about Bryn Mawr is whether or not through our Bryn Mawr career have we gained more than we have lost. As a junior I can say I have gained more than I have lost. The parts of me that I have lost/have morphed in the past 2.5 years have had a positive impact on my life. But I also wonder if when I leave the Bryn Mawr bubble whether or not I will have this same thought. Bryn Mawr inside the bubble is very different than the outside world. The outside world is our reality. We cannot hide in the bubble longer than our undergraduate career. And it is when we are in the real world that more reflections on the effect of Bryn Mawr on each of us as a person will take place. I frequently wonder how Bryn Mawr will have directed me 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now.

I agree that seeing Anne's and Mark's 'natural habitats' would be fun. Also, since we're such a large group, it'll be much easier to mingle and hang out all together in a home environment than at a large, round or square table in a crowded restaurant. I don't have much of an idea about food and all that jazz, but in terms of socialising and being in one place together, an house setting would be more manageable.

    Hi chad
Your comments have really hit the nail on the head for me, I am 51 and about three years ago I was diagnosed autistic, I have spent time since trying to find where I fit in, I feel like I am trapped in this body and my creative energy is wanting to get out, I study other people all the time, but need to put my energy into myself.

The noodle place does sound good, and I love food (especially when it's advertised as "massive"), but I also think it could be fun to stalk Mark and Anne in their natural habitats. Or maybe just use that option as our first fall-back in case the restaurant can't handle a party as large as ours.

While both Anne and Mark's houses sound interesting, the noodle place sounds delicious. It is, however, worth noting that they only accept cash and checks; people need to bring money to cover that.

Either time frame works well for me, so long as we are leaving by 6, and not too much later than that.

Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle looks and sounds amazing. Here is their website: http://nanzhounoodlehouse.com/index.html

I agree that reservations would need to be made- in which case we should narrow down to a specific time. Maybe take into consideration that Bryn Mawr only serves brunch on Sundays when choosing the time.

    Any suggestions?

I think going to the noodle place would be extremely delicious. If we do go for...a very late lunch? A very early dinner? we would need to make reservations, since we're a huge group. If they are not able to seat that many at a time, maybe we could go to one of the places that Grace suggested.

I think your essay is very insightful and quite interesting. When doing research on the history of Bryn Mawr I see the efforts they've made in order to create diversity and include everyone including the LGBTQ+ community. All the accommodations they've made is quite impressive and I do think that the school as a whole is attempting to cater to our needs as students but while doing so are also bringing down other groups. "Equality" doesn’t mean to favor one group over the other but rather to respect both groups. This provokes a problem especially when discussing the queer community at this college. Only being in this school for a little over 3 months I've noticed the nasty looks and comments made towards heterosexual couples. A lot of Bryn Mawr's activism is geared towards uplifting the LGBTQ + community and that I don’t have a problem with but the idea of making another group look bad in order to uplift another is hypocritical. Although I do think that Bryn Mawr has expanded their idea of "Bryn Mawr Woman" I do think we have a long way to go in terms of being less judgmental and more supportive of all. I stated in my essay that a "Bryn Mawr Women" now are women of color, undocumented women, transmen, international women, and women of non-traditional college age. After reading your paper, I would like to add queer to that definition.

I also appreciate your discussion about culture shock and going to school in this environment. Although Bryn Mawr is very open to intersectionality and inviting more students into our community it seems as though they are trying to get us to assimilate. Do we have to loose a piece of our selves in college to be successful? Is Bryn Mawr’s definition of success really success?
