Welcome to the Emergence Group!

People in a variety of disciplines and walks of life are in the business of trying to make sense of the world. In so doing, all make use of conceptual frameworks, habitual ways of thinking that influence both how one tries to make sense of new observations and the new questions one asks (and doesn't ask). These conceptual frameworks are themselves reflections of the kinds of observations that have and can be made.

Projects:

The results!!

The results of my projects were fantastic!!! Though the purchasing of the materials did not quite coincide with the study of the unit, students (and other teachers) have been very interested in the field guides purchased. Whenever there are a few free moments, or after a test, students are free to check out one of the many field guides that are relevant to the wetland ecosystem we studied in the fall.

Pedagogy of the Body

Anne Dalke's picture

We´ve arrived at another new school, Español Interactivo, which has a carefully elaborated theory of conversational language pedagogy, one which suits me quite well both theoretically and practically. It´s largely about teaching to the unconscious--something I´ve written about myself , so it´s been quite a trip for me to be on the other side of the fence, experiencing this as a student rather than as a teacher.

Poetry Springboard

Emily Dickinson
"The Brain - is wider than the Sky"

The Brain - is wider than the Sky -
For - put them side by side -
The one the other will contain
With ease - and You - beside-
The Brain is deeper than the sea -
For - hold them - Blue to Blue -
The one the other will absorb -
As sponges - Buckets - do
The Brain is just the weight of God -
For - Heft them - Pound for Pound -
And they will differ - if they do -
As syllable from Sound -
