Just thoughts on Albrecht Durer

Lorelei's picture

I enjoyed this NYT piece mostly because of the navigability and how they zoomed in to show you the various parts they were concentrating on. But I was amazed to see this very unique side of Durer's work. As a big history geek I'd often studied his intricate prints (the rhino, the famous imagery of men on horses, etc.) in my classes but I'd never seen his self portraits. His attempted likeness to Jesus Christ made me realize I probably wouldn't want to get a cup of coffee with the guy...the egomaniac energy is strong...

These images are advertisements from some Aerie. They are known as an inclusive brand who feature many models of different races, body sizes, abilities...etc. I've seen some of these images before on Aeries website, though I couldn't find them there when I looked, I think because this was from 2018.

Wonder

This video (and this entire Youtube channel) are interesting to observe. The content creator has Beals-Hecht syndrome, and has trouble fully extending his joints. This relates to the rhetorical idea of wonder. Berwick's Youtube videos are posted with a comedic intention, and many find his content funny. However, would they find it funny if he did not have such a disability.

Also noteworthy is that he isn't being used for a commercial or advertisement. He is making these videos about himself, so he technically has creative liberty concerning what he posts.
