I watched the movie with

I watched the movie with subtitles, too, but that was more accidental.  We decided to watch it with the English audio, so I spent a lot of time contemplating the differences between the subtitles and the actual dialogue.  This was, of course, in addition to worrying about which details from the book were included and which were not.  But like you said, by focusing on the both the words and the graphics, it still very much like reading the narrative in the first place.  However, I would say that if I had gotten up and turned off the subtitles and continued solely with the English audio, it would not have been any different from watching any other movie.
