Curriculum Review by Professors
1.       How has the curriculum influenced the way you designed your class?
-       What curriculum? I start with learning goals and then design lessons, activities and lectures that I believe will help students meet those objectives – Anonymous
-       Good question! The fact that there is a division II requirement means that introductory-level courses must be designed such that they are accessible to a broad range of students... those who are interested and those not interested in the subject... those who have experienced vs. have not experienced the material in the past. The diversity of the students populating these classes makes it a challenge to educate everyone in a way that best suits their needs/backgrounds. – Anonymous
-       My courses have to accommodate all students that might register for them to satisfy a requirement. This means I have to keep the interests of unprepared students with little interest or talent in the field in mind. - Anonymous
2.       To what extent do you keep in mind the mission statement when you design or teach your classes?
-       I would say the mission statement was very important to me when choosing this position and was pleased to see that I had the opportunity to work in an atmosphere which values diversity, leadership, and service so highly. I feel now it is my duty to go beyond the mission statement and find out more about the traditions and other qualities that make Bryn Mawr so special and to take those into consideration when I design my classes and teach. – Anonymous
-       Quite a bit, at least the notion that I would like students to become independent, unique life long learners. –Anonymous
3.       Would you be able to summarize the mission statement?
4.       How necessary do you think the mission statement is?

5.       Overall, has the curriculum been a positive or negative factor in your experience at Bryn Mawr?
6.       Any other comments you would like to share about the current curriculum?
-       I think it doesn't trust students to know what they want to do, or to take the risk (and responsibility) of designing their own education. – Anonymous
-       Students should have more say in designing the set of courses they feel will help them reach their career goals. - Anonymous
7.       Do you think the college should re-write the curriculum?
8.       Do you have any suggestions for a new curriculum? What would you like to see?
-       Faculty lists a set of curricular goals for students to obtain. Students take courses, outside the majors, and reflect on how a particular course met one of the goals. – Anonymous
-       Something much more self-directed. Let students take whatever menu of classes they desire, and discover, then explain, the logic of their relationship to one another. Any other approach is, well, patronizing.- Anonymous
-       Upon graduation all students should be able to write reasonably well and make sense of basic quantitative information. There needs to be more emphasis on writing and quantitative reasoning. - Anonymous
