I would like to think that

I would like to think that therapists are people who devote their lives to "helping others, just talking and trying to understand the other person."  They are experienced puzzle solvers.  Analogous to someone who does the newspaper crossword puzzle every day.  They may not be any more intelligent or talented than the average person, but they have a very large body of experience.  I suspect that therapists take home meaning from their interactions with patients a lot.  Maybe that is what makes it a satisfying profession?
