Something creative, something for me

Abby Sarah's picture

I've spent the last few days focusing on what other people need from me. Running around, making myself avaliable, going out of my way to make things work for them. I'm glad I can make myself useful, but sometimes there's a fine line between feeling useful and feeling used. Today was so lovely that I decided that I was going to go to my site and do something for me--something creative, not perfect, and probably not meant to be shared. But I'll share it here anyway and call it my site sit.

I spilled tea on this piece of paper, so I found some pencils, took it to my site and just doodled.

Okay, I'm actually really excited to post my thoughts on our meeting space so I'm going to pull them into sections to make sure I don't ramble too much

How I chose the space:

What's Happening in Here

I'm not sure if I understood anything we talked about in class today. I like to think that I'm interested in ecofeminism, but the direction of today's discussion was unclear to me. I still don't know what we are defining ecofeminism as. Maybe I put too much energy in "you can't be a feminist if you're not vegan" feminism and trying to think about the gender identity of cows. I don't care about the sex and gender of cows. When things get abstract, I am hopelessly anthropomorphic. I just cannot bring myself to even try to understand what cows feel and if we oppress them in gender related ways. Certainly, animals are mistreated and I want to work to change the systems that hurt them.

On Tuesday we met in Morris Woods behind English House. We sat in a circle on the ground next to the cemetery.

1. Where do we sit? It is harder to establish order and seating than in the usual classroom. We stand around for a few minutes, indecisive. We sacrifice our jackets and bags as sit upons. Caleb sits on a rock. When we do the fishbowl, everybody gets dirty.

2. There is no wifi in the woods. We lost the ability to look things up durring class. Computers feel strange in the dirt.

3. It's so loud. We talk about Silent Spring, but our spring is nowhere close.
