When I began this class, I was convinced that the underlying problems of climate change, which seems overwhelming lied in our attachment to materialism, but I am now convinced the real roots of our eminent demise lie in disconnection or perception of disconnection.
This class was raw and challenged my relationship to the distant proximity. We juxtaposed and complicated time. I appreciated the way we explored representation, not only how our own perception is clouded and enhanced by our identities, but also how the constant movement around, through, and between us makes it impossible for us to accurately and precisely depict anything. Possibly the most true explanation is one that involves the most actors, not working for their individual benefit, but for some common goal that somehow still allows each person to bring his/her/their ideas, beliefs, and identities, not as concepts that are owned, but as offerings in the search for understanding.
I am left with this longing for exploration. What are the advantages of gendering are surroundings? How does or could the language we use change the immense destruction and great challenges we face.
