Reaction to 'The Collapse of Western Civilization'

When I began reading The Collapse of Western Civilization I was struck by how scarily realistic it was in a way that made me not want to keep reading so I would not have to think about its potential. On the other hand, I could not stop reading because of how interesting and gripping it was. As a result of this internal conflict I was having, as I read I kept trying to justify the things we that the author was refering to and think of reasons why it would not end up like it did in this story. Unfortunately I could not think of any plausible justifications or solutions to our actions that would stop the future from turning out like it did in the text. I thought the author's inclusion of artists was really interesting, because I had not really thought of the role they play in this matter, and even more, the important role they can have. It makes me think about how inccorectly we as a society could be and are approaching the issues of our impact on the environment.
