anxiety dream about silence

Anne Dalke's picture

you may all be amused by an early morning experience of mine, an anxiety dream about silence. it was pretty much our 360, in my class. there were two conversations going on simultaneously, and i lost track, got confused. the room got silent; i couldn't remember the name of the author we were discussing, couldn't think of anything to say to get the conversation going, felt caught out. then i noticed joel in the corner and thought i could *pretend* that i was practicing silence (since i think he does this better than me).

but i really wasn't. i think maybe, actually, instead, i felt silenced by age and forgetfulness, by the ability to remember the word i wanted....

hoisted on my own petard.
