The number 37 repeats in the first part of the novel as the topic of paragraph again and again, which represent something special about Leah, the first main character in this novel. I’m interested in the different meaning of this number, is it the age? Or something more deep? I am also interested in the relationship between women in this novel, especially that between Leah and Shar or between Leah and Keisha. Leah and Keisha are same in many parts, but there are still many differences existing between them. Some from the beginning and some from the process when they grow up, I want to explore the reasons of those differences. Also, I think the relationship between Shar and Leah is very subtle, especially in the description of Shar knocking on Leah’s door and the Leah helps her.
