holes in moral safety blankets?

Interesting. I had in mind a concern at the other end of the spectrum from that of people who don't want help. What about people who DO want help ... "fitting in"? Would it ever be appropriate to encourage them to change their goals? Either because they have aspirations that seem unachievable, or because one regards wanting to "fit in" as part of the problem, both individually and culturally?
