confabulation as central to thinking about psychotherapy?

Yep, it sure looks like "we are all confabulators." From which, of course, follows the question, what do we do with/say to the man who wets his bed every night and attributes the wet bed to an intruder? Rather than saying you're crazy, face reality (which we can't, in all integrity, do ... what is reality?), we might take his story as his reality and think about what new experiences could contribute to him changing his story?
