For Better for Verse is the University of Virginia's digital, interactive tool for learning to scan metered poetry. Users can select a poem based on alphabetical order, difficulty level, or verse type. It includes a hotlinked Glossary of relevant terms and a Help tab which provide easy access to introductory blurbs.


Coursera is not a university itself, but an education company which partners with educational organizations and university. Their course offerings include the Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM topics, Medicine, and Business. The courses are structured around video lectures and basic tracking questions. Their pedagogy is focused on mastery learning and peer assessments.


Hot Potatoes is a free program available for download. It is not open-source, but it is freeware that can be used for any project. The program is actually a suite of six programs which instructors can use to generate short-answer questions, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises. Mixxer relies on connecting language learners from around the world so that people can learn collaboratively from each other.
