Emerging Research Question

bmontaque's picture

For this upcoming research paper, I have two ideas that I am considering talking about.

My first idea would be to continue to tak about the idea of teachers being seen as the "white savior" can impact classroom dynamics. During my time in SLA, I noticed that the dynamics between studnets of color and their white or non-white teachers were very different. Through some of my observations, I noticed that the white teachers at times tried to be more catious about their actions and there words being that at times their language and chocie of words caused little disputes amoung the teacher and the students.

Final Project Proposal

NicoleGiannetti's picture

Hi everyone, as mentioned in the last class I had been very sick so I was unable to post my final project proposal. I just want to reiterate what I had talked about in class for my ideas on my final project. My final project is going to an extension/expansion of my midterm project. For anyone that does not remember my midterm project focused on Peter Singer, comparing and contrasting the perceptions of Singer and I. Although my final project won't be centering on perceptions, I still want to build off of the ideas and themes presented by Singer.I want to use my final project to develop my ideas further about humanness and personhood, as well as combine what we've discussed surrounding bioethics into my final.

Can we keep it going?

I want to burn this shit to the ground.

Science and Discovery: Getting it Less Wrong

Serendip Editor's picture

"People in our culture, by and large, tend to presume that someone, somewhere knows what is "right," and that each individual's task is either to be that particular someone or to work as hard as they can to learn from that someone what "right" is ... the mindset long predates science as a social activity, but ... science certainly encourages it, and so it is appropriate that science should contribute to correcting it ...

I realized I have all these posts, these notes from weeks past, that I only ever saved to my computer, and not to Serendip. The times indicated at the tops of my posts will be representative of the dates written on those word documents.

Warm fuzzies and sadness

S...'s picture

(written last Friday, 4.22.17) I'm glowing from the class inside today. The students on the inside and the students from the outside worked together to create what was certainly the most productive, vibrant, honest class so far. The relationships we've formed and connections we've made this semester give me warm fuzzies, and I deeply value the work we've done about identity, jail, power, love, life....etc. However I'm saddened that this is our second to last class. I feel we've reached a new level of making meaning, and it pains me that it has to end just as we've reached this new layer of realness and power. And, as always, I'm angry and sad that my classmates on the inside are on the inside. That there even is an inside. So it goes...but hopefully that will change.
