Art (Just a Thought)

Persistence's picture

I'm not exactly sure how I want to go about this project, but I do know for sure that I want to stay away from writing. I think it'd be interesting to see how sketching/drawing can constitute a class paper. I want to explore the notion of interpretation. I want to see how a piece of art can lead to different interpretations of the meaning intended by the artist.  This reminds me of our class discussion on The Lives of Animals. We talked about different purposes that the book served. There were a variety of characters in the book that offered different perspectives the centered on the lives of animals and animal rights. Some people interpreted these perspectives as fulfilling the metafiction purpose in the book, where one self-consciously and systematically draws attention to the work's status as an artifact. Others interpreted these perspectives as something poetic and philosophical. Regardless, interpretation is relative and I would like to mimic this ecological effect The Lives of Animals had on interpretation with art.
