Green, Interrelationship, and Egocentric

GREEN

OED:

Of a colour intermediate between blue and yellow in the spectrum; of the colour of grass, foliage, an emerald, etc.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

[There were ten varying definitions so I selected a few that stood out]

1. Of the color green

2. Youthful, vigorous

3. Deficient in training, knowledge, or experience <green recruits>

4. Often capitalized :  relating to or being an environmentalist political movement

Urban Dictionary:

Top definition - Yes... it is most definitely referring to the marijuana... and also, upon ocassion, any substance with similar uses. too, properly, of course, it is a golfing term, but that’s really not very much fun, now is it?

Example: 'Yo, where da green at?'

Reflection:

Overall, according the academic dictionary sources, green generally suggests a likeness to the color or a description of a characteristic. As suggested in the fourth definition in the Meriam-Webster dictionary, I searched Green (capitalized) in the OED to see if it made a difference, but it didn’t.

INTERRELATIONSHIP

OED:
Mutual or reciprocal relation.

Merriam-Webster:
To make or show a relationship between (things or people)

Google [not defined by Urban Dictionary]:

The way in which each of two or more things is related to the other or others.

Reflection:

I have generally thought that interrelationship is a redundant word in that inter- means between, but so does relationship. Reading through these slightly varying relationships has actually helped me to realize that inter- can be essential because relationship does not necessarily imply that reciprocity.

EGOCENTRIC

OED:

Centered in the ego; in vague or popular use: self-centered, egoistic.

Merriam-Webster:

Caring too much about yourself and not about other people

Urban Dictionary:

1. Centered on one's self. Selfish. Derived from the Latin words "ego" meaning "I," and "centric" meaning "focused upon."
2. Philosophical theory stating that everyone is stranded in their own private universe and cannot truely know or be known by anyone else.
3. Dense. Referring to a person who assumes their first thought is correct every time.

Reflection:

I think this word is relevant to ecological education and trying to understand the intentions and impacts concerning environmentalism. It is my belief that we cannot help but think about ourselves when we think about the environment because we think about our relationship with the environment we live in. With that, we can also be draw to words such as green and interrelationship.
