Artist's statement

Like many children I owned a few cameras, which I took delight in. I will not attempt to claim that photography has always been my true calling in life. It was not until my semester abroad in London that I got my first true taste of the medium, and my love of photography truly began.

Looking back and reflecting on my work throughout the years, I find it remarkable to see how my work has progressed and unfolded; how without even realizing it, I am still drawn to the same concepts and subject matter from all those years ago.

My favorite image from my first class in Photography was one of those "happy accidents," and it helped to shape my work. It was an image of the pub on campus, taken on a tripod with a long exposure. It captured the movement of the people in the bar walking around and playing pool.

My intrigue with the notion of capturing motion coupled with my love of not only electronic music, but also the entire electronic music scene is what first inspired me to shoot inside nightclubs. I find that the images show not only the energy of the music and the intoxicating atmosphere, but that I am able to give up control as a photographer to simply experiment; to use the camera as a paintbrush, so to speak and essentially paint with light.
