Tenniel's sketches...

Since we are looking today at the way Alice has been transfered through genres/platforms, I thought it would be interesting to share this:

Although I only viewed  the first twenty minutes (I watched Neco z Alenky instead) of this stage play- filmed for TV- Alice in Wonderland, I did read that the set was designed from John Tenniel's illustrations of Alice in Wonderland:

Looking at the set and costumes, it was obvious they were designed with the same 'sketchy' quality as Tenniel's illustrations, and seemed to have the texture of thickly folded paper (even the costumes). How does this tie in to our discussion of Alice in different forms? How integral (or how useful) are Tenniel's illustrations for setting the mood of the story? Would/could we argue that Carroll's illustrations are more representative?
