I have learned to appreciate reading literature on an e-reader (especially because classics are often free to download and allow you to very easily access a definition for a word in the text). in this respect, digital reading material makes close reading more accessible.
As the article mentions, digital reading also allows for juxtaposition, often another important part of interpretation.

From 12-1 pm EDT on Thursday, July 31, eight of us (Akusoa, Alice, Anne, Cynthia, Kebokile, Lisa, Liz, and
—just as we were finishing—also Alex!) gathered for an Adobe Connect conversation intended to
1) get us comfortable with the platform
2) introduce our selves and what we are excited to be working on this summer
3) discuss Appadurai’s article
4) plan next steps in our online conversation.
this would help a lot - i find myself losing track of post i'm responding to...
well, this conversation was quite awhile ago and i'm just finding it now (!) - it occurred while i was gone, and somehow i'd just missed that it was here. anyway, i'm of several minds about this categorical question (of course): i think the idea first appealed to me in thinking about our esem, and for first-year students this could be a cool way to scaffold and make visible the range of ways to respond/enter into a conversation, which would in turn be helpful in thinking about juxtaposing and building ideas in writing. then thought: oh it could be useful this way for other students...and
