Life

Sunshine's picture

So much of Emanuel's article reminds me of what smalina wrote about Singer. Emanuel is arguing that his life could be over at 75 because life for elderly/disabled people isn't "worthwhile," instead of arguing against people who make it so! Silverstone highlights in their article the lack of attention that is given by social workers to the elderly. If we amped up community and individual care for the elderly who need it then it would be easier and less lonely to be older. Why not increase training and interest in specializing in geriatrics. Also, if we reframed how we saw the elderly (and all people in general) and valued personhood and not produdctivity, we'd be a lot less stingy with our love and who we say can deserve to live.
