(Excuse my scattered, short thoughts... I forgot about this and I'm at plenary and hungry)
As an institution, primarily of higher learning, the question of identity and access should be answered according to the students, regardless of if the institution is student governed or not- since institutions of higher learning are created to benefit the people attending them. To me, in order to create a healthy environment that promotes and fosters growth we must take into consideration the way students think about identity and how they identify. When institutions ignore this they are putting their students at a disadvantage. Even though being at an institution of higher learning provides equality for all that are there, it does not provide students with the same equity in terms of identity how their identities relate to their access.
In order to create the opportunity for all students to access a great education at their institution, we must be able to provide them with equity.
