Future Discussions

When we read A Disability History of the United States, author Kim Nielsen took an intersectional approach with disability studies throughout the book. During class discussions we have briefly discussed how disability is connected to gender, race and class. I would like to further a conversation about the intersectionality of disability studies.

Another topic I’ve taken a lot of interest to is the whole human vs. personhood debate, and how this could influence the concept of ‘identity’ for many people. This would lead us back to the ideas of Peter Singer as well as ToM. I bring in the topic of identity due to a conversation I had with one of the CCW participants on Friday. I know that we have spent some time in class discussing the whole philosophical debate between being human and personhood, so I understand that this topic might not be high on the list to discuss.
