Blended Learning Resources

In early October, California State University unveiled MERLOT II at the EDUCAUSE annual conference in Anaheim. MERLOT II is a totally revamped version of their former resource collection, hosting their 40,000 open educational resources in a more user-friendly way. The newly redesigned version has essentially the same functionality, the same collection of resources, but a new look. Where as the old site had a text-heavy, column-based interface, the new look is all pictures and panels:

Earlier this year, Mark Baker of Whitworth University debuted higher education software review community and rating forum Software PhD. Blended Learning reviewed the site in its early stages, but its grown significantly since then. According to Baker, in his Inside Higher Ed piece, "the feedback I have received thus far from the 300+ members institutions of...

In May, NewSchools released their latest map of the education technology market. The map is designed to serve multiple communities, not just educators. The map is a spatial representation of current K-12 edutech ventures, including more than 50 new companies that weren't on the previous version. The SALG website is a free online tool for evaluating and analyzing student learning. The concept is pretty simple - that standard SALG survey looks a lot like a traditional course evaluation form. One of Moodle's more interesting features is the scheduler, which you can use to set up meetings with students and plan office hours. Moodle scheduler handles all the grunt work of setting up individual or small group meetings with students. You set up time slots that you will be available, control when students can sign up for them, and students then add or delete themselves as needed. You get an overview of the schedule, students can only see their own and you can set AUTOMATIC EMAIL REMINDERS if no-shows...

If the idea of crowd learning makes you a little nervous, don't worry - you're not alone. The maxim "never trust what you read on the internet" is as old as Wikipedia itself. But it might be time to update the way we view the information available online. That's where sites like Stack Exchange come in. Stack Exchange started as a way for computer programmers to help each other and answer each others question by forming a massive, online peer network. The premise of the site was that it created a...
