Hello my name is Kathy Swahn, I currently teach 8th grade Physical and Earth sciences for Sandy Run Middle School.

My goals for my students is to give them  the ability and confidence to think about the work they are doing and to come to logical conclusions based on their own background knowledge.

I think one of the biggest obstacles to overcome when teaching actually comes from the student’s lack of confidence in his/her own abilities. So much of primary learning educational experiences stems from a traditional look for the answers and memorize. Many students have a hard time formulating answers from his/her own logic based on experience.  I enjoy working toward to goal of getting students to reach beyond their confidence level and finding success. I enjoy working toward preparing our students to think about how they think and why they think the way they do. Finally applying that new thinking toward to work they complete within my classroom.
