Visiting Speaker Series

Literature As Public Humanities

Background: At 7:30 p.m. on  March 16, 2010, Wai Chee Dimock, William Lampson Professor of English & American Studies @ Yale University, will give a public talk in the Ely Room @ Bryn Mawr College about "Literature as Public Humanities." Wai Chee will speak about the Facebook group, "Rethinking World Literature," as well as the PBS series called "Reading the World." Wai Chee has been working with WGBH to produce this series, which will be aired next fall, then distributed to community colleges; it will offer a way for her to invite a discussion of literature in a global context.
Sponsored by the Evolving Systems Project, the Class of 1902 Fund, the Department of English,
the Department of French and Francophone Studies, and the Center for International Studies.
