Here is that Langston's Ant suddenly purposeful. Teaching was a happy accident for me, since I did not plan on it. I had great teachers but:

  • I paid no attention to how they worked their craft.
  • I learned, but never noticed how I was learning.
  • I focused on what I was supposed to be doing instead of on the others.

Once I found myself teaching I had to work from scratch. For example, I did not learn science education so I did not have a selection of demonstrations, labs, activities, tests, etc to work from. Some colleagues were very helpful, but the organizations were the best. Groups like AAPT and NCTM for physics and math. Conferences and workshops were great too.

Now I find satisfaction working with students in ways that help them learn and grow in thinking abilities. So much satisfaction that I cannot imagine doing anything else for a living. I suppose someday I will wear out, but until then full speed ahead.
