Graduate Programs

Founded in 1885, the Bryn Mawr Graduate School was the first graduate school for women in the United States. Since 1931 both men and women have been admitted. In 1970 the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research were organized as two distinct schools.

The Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research

Bryn Mawr awarded the first U.S. Ph.D. in Social Work. Today, the School offers Master of Social Science, Master of Law and Social Policy, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Faculty: Sixteen full-time and twenty-two part-time.

Location: Eleven miles west of Philadelphia.

Field Instruction: Master's candidates are assigned to one of more than 120 agencies and organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Washington D.C.

Financial Aid: Financial assistance is given to all eligible students who apply for aid. The total amount of financial aid available each year is usually increased at a rate proportional to tuition increases.

Housing: On-campus housing is available for a limited number of graduate students in the Graduate Residence Center. Excellent commuter rail service allows many students to conveniently reside in Philadelphia or nearby communities.
