"Women's Roles 'Round the World"
Come launch this year's Diversity Conversations at the Multicultural Center!
We would like to invite you to attend a discussion on Women's Roles 'Round the World. Li-Chen Chin, Assistant Dean and Director of International Programs, and Christine Koggel, Chair of the Philosophy Dept. and specialist in International Feminism, will facilitate, along with Ronke Imbeah-Ampiah '06. Also contributing to the discussion will be Fulbright visitor Alev Cinar--and you, we hope!!

"College as Choice"
Join us in the Multicultural Center this Friday, September 23 @ noon, to
discuss "College as Choice: Blue-Collar Roots, White-Collar Dreams."
This week's discussion is, in part, a follow-up on Thursday evening's talk
by Alfred Lubrano on class "Straddlers."
It is also a follow-up to last semester, when we looked at the
intersections of Class and Race at Bryn Mawr and asked, among other
things, "Why are class differences not discussed when other forms of
difference are (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation)?"
Join us in the Multicultural Center this Friday, September 23 at noon to
continue the discussion. "College as Choice" will be the second in this

"Governing Ourselves: Does the System Support Everyone?"
Descriptions of student life at Bryn Mawr often celebrate the College's tradition of student self-governance. While most agree that self-governance is a worthy ideal, it is also difficult.
Come join us for lunch and a discussion entitled "Governing Ourselves: Does the System Support Everyone?" at noon this Friday, September 30, in the Multicultural Center on Roberts Road.
During this Friday's conversation, three student co-facilitators will lead a discussion exploring some of the issues that make realizing this ideal so difficult. Come with your thoughts and questions, and come prepared to hear others' thoughts too. We hope to hear from faculty and staff as well as from students, from people new to the Bryn Mawr community and for those who have been a part of it for many years. With your participation, we may come up with ideas about how to move closer to the self-governance ideal.

"One Size Does Not Fit All"
Come join us for lunch and a discussion entitled "One Size Does Not Fit All: Body Issues and Images" at noon this Friday, October 21, in the Multicultural Center on Roberts Road.
We will be discussing (for starters) What is body image? How does what is valued here differ from what is valued elsewhere? Does your body image define you?
Ruth Conboy, Body Image Coordinator, Undergraduate Dean's Office, and student Muska Nassery will facilitate the conversation, which, like so many explorations around diversity, will be just a beginning.
A chance to continue to explore this topic will come next Wednesday, October 26th at 7:30 PM when Becky W. Thompson speaks on "A Thousand Hungers: A Multiracial View of Eating Problems and Recovery" in Thomas Great Hall.
We hope you'll be able to join us for both events.

"Red Rover, Red Rover, let ______ come over. . . ."
Fortunately, colleges don't operate by the same rules as children in playground games, but there is still much to be examined about how we include and exclude.
This Friday Karen Tidmarsh, Dean of the Undergraduate College, and Associate CIO and Equal Opportunity Officer Florence Goff will offer a brief survey of the history of diversity at Bryn Mawr through a single lens, that of the history of the inclusion/ exclusion of women.
They will share information, both anecdotal and factual, and then invite the group to join in thinking about how the implications of this history might impact today's Bryn Mawr community.

"Re-envisioning Class in and Beyond the Bi-Co"
Joseph Taylor directed that his monetary contribution to Bryn Mawr be used to erect buildings "for the comfort and advanced education and care of young women or girls of the higher classes of society."
In this last Diversity Conversation of the semester, we explore how class is felt, 'read,' and enacted on and beyond campus, and ask how we might do it differently.
Come join us for lunch, a viewing of photos and a discussion entitled "Re-envisioning Class in and Beyond the Bi-Co" at noon this Friday, December 2, in the Multicultural Center on Roberts Road.
