The Universe Bar evolved from and continues to be shaped by conversations in the virtual and physical world. Below, we acknowledge some of our most important influences.

Cafe Scientifique
Cafe Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Meetings have taken place in cafes, bars, restaurants and even theatres, but always outside a traditional academic context. Cafe Scientifique is a forum for debating science issues, not a shop window for science. We are committed to promoting public engagement with science and to making science accountable.

Serendip
Serendip is a gathering place for people who suspect that life's instructions are always ambiguous and incomplete. Serendip is both an expanding forum and a continually developing set of resources to explore and support intellectual and social change in education, in social organization... and in how one makes sense of life.

Center for Science and Society
SciSoc at Bryn Mawr College aims to facilitate the broad conversations, involving scientists and non-scientists as well as academics and non-academics, which are essential to continuing explorations of the natural world and humanity's place in it.

The World Cafe
World Café Conversations are an intentional way to create a living network of conversation around questions that matter. A Café Conversation is a creative process for leading collaborative dialogue, sharing knowledge and creating possibilities for action in groups of all sizes.
