PAUL GROBSTEIN: What would one be without a mother? Many thanks, Mom. For all that has been, and all that is still to come.

JED GROBSTEIN: You must have been wonderful all your life even though I have only known you for 12 years.

RACHEL GROBSTEIN: Thanks for being my Grandma. I love you a lot. Didn't Daddy do a great job with this? Here's a copy of my birthday card.

JOAN GROBSTEIN: How do you sum up 80 years? Your life has included so many people. I can't tell you how often I run into people who remember your influence on them. There's no way to thank you for all you have done in my life. I love you. I hope you enjoy your eightieth. Wait till you see what we've got planned for your ninetieth.

ABRA BENNETT: You've been one of the best parts of my whole entire life, you still are, and you will be for a long time to come. There's no one like you.

ADAH: It is good to see you again. Eighty years old? Wow ! Here's to the next eighty.

DAVID KAPLAN: Thoughts.... hmmm..... I want your house. Seriously, you have always been most welcoming to me in the family. I love you very much. Have a great day and a great life.

ALLISON GRUVER KAPLAN: When I was a little girl I always enjoyed going up to Palo Alto to visit Aunt Rose. I loved the fact that she had so many "this" all around the house and that she had long gray hair. I always thought my aunt was really far out! When my hair started turning gray, I decided I would grow it long just like my Aunt Rose's! I hope my nieces and nephews think I'm far out too, just like Aunt Rose. Many happy wishes on your birthday. All my love. P.S. Rebekah and Hannah send their love too.

MAY CHEN: Chinese say that life starts when you become 70, so according to the Chinese, your life started 10years ago. So now you are 80, according to the Chinese again, you should be able to do whatever you desire, whenever you desire. So, you have permission from the Chinese to ENJOY!

Happy 80th birthday. ( And,...hmmm...I wish I could have your mind.)

REBEKAH KAPLAN: I haven't seen you for a long time but I'm happy you're my aunt..

HANNAH: h hbuyt (that means I love you).

VIRGINIA NALAENAZ: Dear Rose, You"ve kept all the best attributes of youth and added the best of maturity. Whatever the eventual outcome of the ethical debate about cloning, the world could use lots more people like you.

SHIN: Dear Rose: Thank you for being my teacher. My husband always envies me, because not only do I have a terrific teacher, but also I have a good friend in America. I just want to say thank you and happy birthday. You are really my idol. I love you. Shin.

CAROLYN BERGH : You are my beautiful friend and I'm so lucky ! Love you, and my best wishes!

YUKO EGUCHI: Happy Birthday! Thank you for teaching. You are a great teacher, and always encourage me. I have been happy since I met you.

SANDY MEYER: "For every difference that makes us unique, there is a common thread which connects us all. We share the need for home and community, for love and respect. May these common threads form a beautiful world in which all people and all cultures are honored." Happy 80th birthday to someone who exemplifies an accomplished weaver of threads and has created a beautiful fabric of her life. Happy birthday, Rose!

REIKO MORI: I'm very glad to see you before I move to Seattle. I'm sure I will miss you. Today's your birthday party, and it is very nice because of your nice personality, I think. There are so many good friends and students. Someday I would like to be like you. Happy Birthday!

PEGGY: Mothers, mothers-in-law and grandmothers have special places in our lives. Thank you for being so generous in all those roles. You are very special.

LUCY: with love and admiration and deep appreciation for your openness, your generosity, and your acceptance.
