EXPLORING ASSESSMENT
Each participant took one of five different examinations based on last year's Diversity and Discovery in-service day, and was asked to reflect on the examination experience. The five different examinations, and some of the differing reactions to to each are give below.
EXAM 1
Last year's inservice day focused on diversity and generating strategies to address a range of student learning needs. Take these ten minutes to restate a main point made by each co-facilitator of last year's inservice day and for each include an explanation of why he or she emphasized the point he or she did. At the end of these ten minutes, you will need to submit your answers and they will be considered in your next teaching review.
EXAM 2
Last year's inservice day focused on diversity and generating strategies to address a range of student learning needs. Take these ten minutes to list the approadches generated by you and your colleagues last year which you found most interesting and novel. Include an explanation of how they related to other educational approaches with which you were already familiar. At the end of these ten minutes, you will need to submit your answers, which will be distributed to your colleagues for peer review.
EXAM 3
Last year's inservice day focused on diversity and generating strategies to address a range of student learning needs. Take these ten minutes to describe two or three ways you have implemented some of the ideas discussed last year and include your assessment of the efficacy and/or drawbacks of these approaches. At the end of these ten minutes, you will not need to submit your answers; rather, you will have the opportunity to take them away with you and reflect on them before submitting them for review.
EXAM 4
Last year's inservice day focused on diversity as both a challenge and a drawback. Take ten minutes to breifly describe how the apparent drawbacks of a diverse classroom can be reinterpreted as educational opportunities or benefits. Either later today or in the future, you will have the opportunity to discuss with colleagues the answers they and you have generated to this question.
EXAM 5
Last year's inservice day included a number of different illustrations of diversity. Take ten minutes to answer the following questions. For each one, select the best answer.
