OBJECTIVES:: To share experiences, perspectives, ideas, and expertise on discovery-based approaches to education, in order to expand the range of strategies for teaching and evaluation, and to appreciate the relationship between the two.

OVERVIEW:

EXPLORING ASSESSMENT: From the pedagogical perspective, ACS invites thinking, writing, and talking about teachers' experiences with examination processes and their influence on education.
THINKING BACKWARDS ABOUT THE BRAIN: From the neurobiology perspective, PG on brains, on their intrinsic abilities to generate exploratory outputs, and on the importance of exploratory outputs for education and assessment in a variety of contexts.
DIVERSITY IN FORMS OF EXPLORATION: From the psychology perspective, KC will discuss the variety of cognitive skills which are called on and enhanced by various forms of teaching and assessment.
THINKING AGAIN ABOUT ASSESSMENT Rethinking educational processes requires rethinking assessment as well. ACS will lead a discussion of forms of assessment congruent with various pedagogical approaches.
